If you are preparing formula feeds for your baby, use ready-made formula milk if you can. You can use this bottled water to make baby formula feed. You must boil it first and then use as normal.
The current disruption to water supplies to our customers in Flintshire is both challenging and frustrating. We’re extremely sorry and appreciate the inconvenience and concern that this has caused, especially to those customers who had issues with their water supply the previous weekend.
The repair is very challenging as the burst pipe is 5 metres underground with difficult ground conditions and close to electric cables which requires extra care.
Our priority is to ensure the safety of our staff and our customers whilst undertaking the repair but we can assure you that our teams are doing all they can to repair the pipe and return supplies as soon as possible.
As water starts to return to normal you can expect to experience low water pressure or discoloured water.
When there has been a burst water main, as we have experienced, this can stir up the sediment, causing the water to become discoloured.
Any low water pressure will return to normal once the system has been re-filled. If this hasn’t returned to normal please contact us so that we can check this out.
Discoloured water could be yellow, orange, brown or black, it’s caused by particles of iron or manganese which have usually come from the cast iron water mains, and have settled over time.
If this happens you should run your tap for a few minutes, if this doesn’t work, turn off your tap for 20 minutes and try again.
You may also experience cloudy water, if this happens, try leaving it in a glass of water for a few minutes to see if it clears.
Although it doesn’t look nice, the levels of iron and manganese found in discoloured tap water are unlikely to be harmful to your health. However, we wouldn’t recommend using it to make up infant feeds or babies’ bottles. We also recommend that you don’t wash clothes during this time as it main stain your washing.
If it’s been longer than 24 hours it may be that we need to come and flush the system to help it along its way. If you’ve had discoloured water for more than 24 hours then please give us a call.
