Winter Warm Up Event

An event in Rhyl to promote services that will help customers stay warm and well this winter was a great success.

Around 70 customers attended the event, hosted by Welsh Water, at Rhyl food bank and got money saving advice and support from 13 partners including Nest, Citizen’s Advice, Warm Wales and Denbighshire Council.

One customer who attended said: “I really enjoyed the event today, I’m living on my own so having information on the best tariffs has been so helpful, everyone is so friendly so it wouldn’t matter if you came on your own.”

At the event there was a demonstration hosted by the Food Bank on how to use ingredients from a food parcel to create a nourishing meal, including free tasters. There was also a prize draw for two customers to win a slow cooker, which were both handed out on the day. People who attended the event received ingredients to recreate the meal at home, donated by Morrisons in Rhyl.

Tracey Jones, Vulnerable Customer Community Advisor at Welsh Water, led on organising the event. She said: “I’m so pleased with how this event went. As well as speaking to many people about lots of support, we took the details of 15 customers to either get them signed up to one of our social tariffs or our Priority Services Register.

“It’s great to be able to work with partners in this way, out in the community engaging with customers and making a real difference to their finances, especially in the lead up to Christmas.”
