Newport Family Event

Welsh Water hosted a free half term family event at The Riverfront Arts Centre in Newport.

Over 30 partner organisations, including Newport City Council, Mind, OVO Energy, Step Change Debt Charity and Tesco, attended to offer information on cost-of-living support, energy saving, mental health and lots more. As well as lots of fun activities for families including face painting, arts and crafts and even plate spinning!

The event had an amazing turn out with over 300 customers in attendance throughout the day.

Jody Perkins, Promotions Advisor, said: “I am thrilled with how yesterday’s event went. The aim was to offer somewhere for families to come together during half term to get information, support and also have lots of fun.

“The turn out was incredible and we were able to offer plenty of advice and support for customers. Early results show we helped over 20 people with debt support on the day, with lots more call backs to do for customers who needed a little more information. We also had lots of customers signing up for water meters, too.

“I’m so proud to have been part of this day and to see all the hard work pay off to make a real difference to the financial wellbeing of our customers.”

Welsh Water stands included members from our Bill and Debt Advice, Vulnerable Customer, Cartref, Employment and Education Teams, who were all able to offer some valuable advice and support with bills, signing up to water meters and improving financial wellbeing. It was a great opportunity to showcase our new first of its kind ‘Cymuned’ support scheme for working families and the cost-of-living support we have on offer.

Feedback from partner organisations has so far been extremely positive, when asked how they’d rate the event.

Ethylle Bering of Pobl Group said: “Excellent, so many families came by and had bags full of things!.... I was also able to give out 200 energy saving lightbulbs so hopefully we have been able to support some families!”
