Updated: 22:00 16 August 2025

We are continuing work to restore water supplies across Flintshire following the repair of the burst water main in Broughton.

The process of refilling the water network is underway. This is a careful, staged operation to avoid secondary bursts and protect water quality across an extensive network of over 500km. We expect supplies to return to the following areas overnight and into tomorrow morning. These restoration times are estimates and could vary as we refill the network.

  • Saturday evening: Supplies are expected to return to Flint, Bagillt, Holywell, and parts of Mold by around 9 PM.
  • Later Saturday evening: We’re continuing with the second phase of refilling, which will bring water back to Deeside and more areas of Mold and Connah’s Quay by around 11 PM.
  • Sunday Lunchtime: The final stage will focus on outlying properties in Broughton and the wider Flintshire area, with full restoration expected by late tomorrow morning.

Some properties may take longer to see their water supply fully restored. This can happen for several reasons. Homes on higher ground may experience low pressure or intermittent supply at first because water takes longer to reach elevated areas. Air trapped in the system can also block water flow, and our teams are working to locate and release these air locks. In addition, refilling the network after a major disruption can sometimes cause secondary bursts or leaks, but we have crews on standby to repair these as quickly as possible.

We are extremely sorry for the disruption and appreciate your patience while we work to restore normal service as quickly and safely as possible.

Alternative water supplies remain available overnight at:

  • Jade Jones Pavilion, Flint CH6 5ER
  • Park & Ride Car Park, Deeside Industrial Park, CH5 2NY
  • Car Park at County Hall Car Park, Mold CH7 6NF

Please only take the bottled water you need and check in on elderly or vulnerable neighbours.

We have confirmed compensation arrangements and also issued an open letter to our customers here.

After an incident

Following an incident, you may have some questions about your water supply returning or what happens next if you need to make a claim.

Help and Advice

Your supply may look different to normal for a short period of time after an incident.

Discoloured water

Discoloured water which is yellow, orange, brown cloudy or black is caused by particles of iron or manganese, which have usually come from cast iron water mains, and have settled over time in the network.

As we return water through the system and the pressure increases, this can increase the water flow and can stir up the sediment.

Discolouration is usually short term and if you run your taps for a few minutes then this should clear.

Cloudy Water

Tiny air bubbles can cause your water to look cloudy or discoloured. The air bubbles are quite harmless and will quickly clear.

If this happens, try leaving it in a glass of water for a few minutes to see if it clears.

Cloudy Water is usually short term and if you run your taps for a few minutes then this should clear.

Frequently asked questions

Low water pressure

Sometimes the water pressure can take a while to build up again following an incident.

The pressure might take several hours to fully return and depends on where you live. For example, customers at the top of a hill are likely to take longer to get full pressure than those at the bottom.

The water might also splutter out of your taps when it first comes back on. This should clear if you run your taps for a couple of minutes.
