Our emergency work at Tynywaun Water Treatment Works (Treherbert) which supplies your drinking water has now been completed. The precautionary Boil Water Notice has therefore been lifted.
Local Health Agencies have agreed that the recent precautions are no longer necessary and so customers can return to drinking their tap water as normal.
This means that:
- You don’t need to boil water before using it.
- Vending machines and ice making machines can be reconnected.
- We advise you to change any filters around your home; this applies to filter jugs and plumbed-in water filters. Please replace all filters with new ones.

Frequently asked questions
Boil notice came in effect at 5:00am on Sunday, 24th November.
We had significant rainfall w/c 18th November, in fact the weather gauge at Tynywaun measured the second highest rainfall in the UK Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th November. This resulted in a significant amount of flooding on site at Tynywaun Water Treatment Works and surface water running from the hill onto the drinking water storage tank and impacting the tank. This is why we immediately issued a precautionary boil water notice to allow us to do work to protect the tank.
This was a precautionary ‘boil water’ notice and we have done extensive testing of the drinking water to ensure that it is of the usual high quality.
All our drinking water needs to comply with the extremely high standards set by our regulators.
