Our services continue to be impacted by power supply issues which could result in interruptions to water supplies or low pressure for some customers, mainly in rural areas. Our teams are working hard to maintain supplies and working closely with all other agencies - including the energy companies - to restore all supplies safely and as quickly as possible.

Commercial Academy

New Commercial Academy launches this week

1 July 2021

Welsh Water has launched its Commercial Academy, a programme designed to strengthen commercial expertise and capability across the business and to support the business objectives with robust cost and commercial management.

The Commercial Academy, based initially in south Wales, aims to attract, develop and retain the best commercial resource by offering individuals the opportunity to receive hands-on experience through structured learning programmes alongside commercially focused placement rotation.

Ryan Evans, Apprentice Quantity Surveyor, shares his experiences of working for Welsh Water over the past two and a half years.

He said: “I started at Welsh Water in September 2018 after deciding I wanted to make a career change from carpentry to quantity surveying. ‘I chose Welsh Water because I’d heard great things about the company, and I wanted to stay local to Wales’.

“I’m currently doing a higher apprenticeship while studying towards a degree in quantity surveying. I work within the Capital Delivery Alliance on rotation around the business so that I can gain an overall understanding of how Welsh Water operates. I started off within the Reactive Team, before moving to the Unit Cost Data Team. Now I’m working with the commercial managers, all of which will help me learn the skills needed for a permanent role as a quantity surveyor. Once qualified, I will be responsible for managing all aspects of the contractual and financial side of projects, including helping to ensure that projects are completed within the projected budgets.

“The best thing about my role is that every day presents a different challenge. No two days are the same, which is good for my development as an apprentice. Also, Welsh Water encourages me to learn by allowing me to attend university while still being able to work.

“I would encourage anyone thinking about applying for a role at Welsh Water to go for it, not only because it’s a great company to work for, but because the people who work here are always eager to help develop you - not only as an employee but as an individual as well.”
