Cost of living support event in Rhyl

3 May 2023

Want to Win a Slow Cooker? Rhyl Residents Encouraged to Attend Cost-of-Living Event with Cooking Demonstration and Chance to Win Slow Cooker. Welsh Water is hosting a free to attend cost-of-living support event in Rhyl on the 17th May 2023 between 10am and 2pm.

At the event, partners including Nest, Citizen’s Advice, Warm Wales, and Women’s Centre Rhyl will join Welsh Water to offer advice and support to Rhyl residents on the cost-of-living and financial support they may be entitled to.

In addition to this, there will be a cooking demonstration from Public Health Wales Dietetics Team, with tasters, to give residents inspiration for low cost, nutritious meals that can be prepared in a slow cooker to make them more energy efficient. Attendees will also be entered into a prize draw to win one of two slow cookers, which will be donated by Welsh Water.

Paula Burnell, Head of Vulnerable Customer Support at Welsh Water, said: “It’s great to be able to offer something a little bit different for the residents of Rhyl with some of the great partner organisations we work with in the area. Whilst our support team is always out in communities across Wales, offering our financial support to eligible customers, this is the first time we’ve hosted an event with a cooking demonstration.

“We can help eligible customers save up to £200 off their average annual water bill, through our financial support, but we know that if people are struggling to afford their water bill, it’s likely they’re struggling with other essentials like their food bill.

“Food prices are at a 45-year high and record numbers of people are turning to The Trussell Trust’s food banks across the UK. We wanted to create an event where Rhyl residents can get financial support and inspiration for easy, low-cost meals that they can cook at home. All the ingredients will be typically available as part of a food parcel.”

The event will be hosted at the Ask Centre, Water Street, Rhyl, LL18 1SP between 10am and 2pm. With two cooking demonstrations, one at 11am and one at 12:30pm.

Paula added: “At Welsh Water we have a dedicated, highly trained, specialist support team in place to guide and support customers experiencing any form of vulnerability; financial or otherwise. If you are struggling with your finances, you are not alone. We are here for you.”
