What to do if you’re worried about paying your water bill
7 February 2022
Here at Welsh Water, we understand that many of our customers need a little extra support from time to time.
Now more than ever, we’re particularly aware that lots of people are facing financial and personal challenges that might be making life a little difficult. You may be facing specific financial challenges right now due to things like the ending of Covid-19 furlough schemes, changes to benefit payments, or the rising cost of energy.
If you’re struggling financially, we might be able to help. We have a range of social tariffs and schemes you could qualify for, and we’re currently supporting a record 140,000 households with financial support.
What support do we offer?
- Social Tariffs: It can be a real worry if you’re unsure about whether you can afford to pay your bills. Our social tariffs are designed to keep water bills low; if you are from a low-income household, receive a means tested benefit, or rely on your water supply to treat a medical condition you may qualify for or HelpU or WaterSure Wales tariffs.
Find out more - Debt schemes: We know it can be stressful if you’ve fallen behind on your payments, and it’s important you know you’re not alone. Debt doesn’t discriminate; it can happen to anyone. Our debt schemes are designed to help you manage your arrears in an affordable way until you’re back in control of your finances. Find out about our Customer Assistance Fund and Water Direct Scheme.
Find out more - Water saving: If you live alone or are particularly water efficient you might benefit from switching to a water meter. With a meter you can make every drop of water count by being water efficient. Our Get Water Fit calculator provides hints and tips on how to save water at home and gives you access to free water saving products. If you don’t currently have a water meter, you might want to consider switching to one.
Find out more - Priority Services: We know not everyone needs financial support, and you may need a different kind of support from us. Our Priority Services Register offers additional free services like accessible bills, a password scheme, and bottled water delivered if there’s ever an interruption to your water supply. These services could help anyone from a person living with a disability or illness, a family with young children, or an elderly or isolated neighbour.
