Black History Month is incredibly important to us at Welsh Water. We take inclusivity extremely seriously and want each and every person in our company to feel safe and welcome at work.

Diversity is essential when it comes to creating a successful company and a thriving culture. That’s why this month we’ll be shining a spotlight on some of our BAME+ colleagues to let you know a little more about the essential work we carry out every day to keep your water running.

Up first, meet Tammilli!

“My Names Tammilli (pronounced like ‘family’, just with a T instead of an F) and I have worked at Welsh Water since 2011.

“I initially came from the DWP, into Dwr Cymru as a Customer Resolution Officer and that role was, in itself, an education and baptism of fire! I learned things quickly because I had to and needed to so that I could do my new job, but I made some great friends and lasting working relationships through the business.

“I am now a GIS Data Coordinator, which means that I draw in the sewer lines on the maps that are used by call handlers, crews, technicians and engineers throughout the business. These are essential when there is an emergency (such as surface water flooding, or internal floods at properties) that we, as a company, need to deal with.

“My team is important within the business as we are able to provide plans for emergency works, as well as updating new build developments on our systems, and being involved in silver and gold incidents when we are called upon. We all work really well together, each of us playing to our strengths and picking up slack if somebody gets stuck doing one thing and needs any help.

“The best part of my job is either the variety of tasks day by day or being able to do a really quick turnaround on a job when a crew or another business area needs it quickly or within a certain deadline and pleasantly surprising them with how fast we’ve got it done for them.

“There’s something oddly fun about being able to email or call somebody before a timescale is reached and let them know that their work has been completed ahead of time.”
