You will spend a week with Welsh Water colleagues at one of our locations across Wales and Herefordshire (you will need to have your own transport to get you to the location stated). There you will have the opportunity to learn about Welsh Water, what we do, how we do it and our values. These opportunities are open to everyone – any age or education level, whether you are still in school or have worked for decades but fancy a change.

Engineering and Operations
We maintain and improve our treatment works and pipelines to make sure water and wastewater is treated safely and efficiently. Jobs include electricians, mechanical fitters, operators and inspectors.

You will work with our craft team, experiencing mechanical, electrical and instrumentation skills. Five Fords, operates the very latest technology within the wastewater treatment field. We maintain some of the largest positive displacement pumps in Europe. A thermal hydrolysis plant, which kills 99.9 % of the pathogens, centrifuges, boilers, advanced digesters, and a gas to grid plant, which at present is the only one in service within Wales.

You will experience how we take samples, monitor and adjust process setpoints, using the latest technology, thus always ensuring safe operations and maximum energy output. You will learn about our renewable energy initiatives, solar panels, combined heat & power engines, and our process of removing the biogas from the sludge then removing the impurities that are produced from the waste and putting it back into the gas network.

You will have the opportunity to shadow our mechanical, electrical and instrumentation team who work to maintain our assets both in planned and reactive situations. You will learn about our customers; the relationship between operations and the environment and the importance of health & safety.

You will have the opportunity to shadow our capital engineering team who are responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of all capital schemes. The team manages the design, quality and costing of engineering projects to ensure they are delivered on time and in budget. You will learn about the refurbishment of older assets as well as the building of new ones; environmental considerations and the importance of health & safety.

You will gain an insight into how we distribute and look after the journey of potable water from treatment to tap. You will learn about how we proactively look after the network; the science and technology involved and our responsibility to ensure the health and wellbeing of our customers through the provision of safe, clean drinking water.
16-20 February 2026 – South East - Welsh Water Transport, Unit 1 Hepworth Business Park, Pontyclun, CF72 9FQ
We operate one of the largest and most complex fleets in the country. Come and explore how our Transport team carry out essential maintenance work keeping our vehicles safe, efficient and on the road supporting the delivery of our water and wastewater services. This placement would suit someone with an interest in vehicle maintenance who is 17 years or above.

We provide service and support to customers, ensuring their needs are met whilst promoting a positive user experience. Jobs include customer advisors, meter readers, retail team leaders.

Our data team offers a work experience placement where you’ll gain exposure to business intelligence, data science, automation, data governance, data engineering, and cyber security. You’ll learn how accurate data is captured, checked, and interpreted to meet regulatory and security requirements, and see how reporting tools and cyber security practices support data-led decision-making. During the placement, you’ll meet team members who lead on different regulatory and security metrics, sharing insights into their roles and responsibilities.
Business and Corporate
We manage financial, administrative, and strategic functions to support Welsh Water’s vision and sustainable growth. Jobs include administrators, human resources advisors, accountants, health & safety advisors.
