Capital schemes

Welsh Water's primary responsibility is to operate, maintain and upgrade its assets so as to ensure the provision of a safe and reliable supply of drinking water and to deal effectively with wastewater so as to protect public health and the natural environment.

In providing this essential public service, we are committed to enhancing the natural environment and safeguarding our heritage. We will undertake environmental assessment whenever appropriate and seek to maximise any opportunity to further conservation. Moreover, to ensure the protection of wildlife and archaeological features we will consult with appropriate bodies particularly when designing new schemes.

Before starting major work we liaise closely with the local communities that are affected. We often hold public exhibitions to explain the work we will be carrying out and to answer any questions that local residents may have. If water supplies are going to be interrupted, or access to customer's premises will be required, then comprehensive information packs are provided to those customers directly affected by the works and a 24 hour contact telephone number is provided. If required, customers can also request a home visit to discuss how the works will impact on them.

We also keep the relevant local authority, community council and Assembly Member informed about the work.
