Dŵr Cymru completes £5m investment in the Hereford area in 2011-12

Further £11m of works now underway

Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water reports that investment in the Hereford area during 2011/12 reached £5m – and a further spend of £11m is underway this year to maintain top quality services to customers.

Announcing its financial results for the past year, Welsh Water reported that its spending programme is on track to deliver an ambitious £1billion boost to water services infrastructure throughout its area over the next three years.

Spending in Herefordshire during 2011/12 on maintaining and improving the drinking water network totalled £4.5m with additional projects accounting for a further half a million pound.

Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water managing director Nigel Annett said, “We are investing in projects in Herefordshire to improve and protect the quality of the drinking water we supply.

“During 2011/12, investment included programmes to improve the performance of our water services network to reduce interruptions to supply and ensure continuity of supply for our customers.”

Highlights of investment in 2011/12 included work on the water network at Llangarron, Ballingham and Bromyard, together with major schemes in Ledbury.

Further investment of £11m is already underway or planned in the Hereford area for the present financial year 2012/13. £7m is being spent on maintenance works, with £1m for environmental improvements. Investment of £1m is planned to support growth by ensuring sufficient network capacity, with a further £2m allocated to schemes to alleviate the risk of sewage flooding of properties.

Welsh Water is a ‘not-for-profit company’ which has been owned by Glas Cymru since 2001. It does not have shareholders, and any financial surpluses are reinvested in the business for the benefit of customers.
