- A total of 10 are offered posts at Welsh Water following the programme with The Prince’s Trust
- Initiative was part of Get into Customer Services programme, designed to improve skills and employability in young people out of work
A group of work-ready young people have been offered jobs following a two-week training programme at Welsh Water, in partnership with The Prince’s Trust Cymru, as part of a training and skills drive.
The group of 12 young people were brought into Welsh Water’s contact centre in Linea in St Mellons, Cardiff, to learn customer service skills and to receive training from the company’s employees and training providers.
Following their time with us, 10 of the 12 were offered a permanent position within the business.
The initiative is a partnership with youth charity The Prince’s Trust, which works to empower young people to get into jobs, education and training through a variety of programmes, including the Get into Customer Services programme.
Young people were hosted by Welsh Water’s Retail Services base, which houses all its customer-facing services. Throughout the programme, the group were given training on employability skills, including activities such as CV writing and taking part in job interviews with our managers.
Julia Cherrett, Managing Director of Retail Services at Welsh Water, said: “This programme has benefited both those taking part – who have learned valuable skills in how we put customers at the heart of what we do – and we have gained a group of skilled and enthusiastic new colleagues to take on our customer-led ethos.
“As a not-for-profit company with customers at the centre of everything we do, our best assets are our colleagues and we’re delighted that The Prince’s Trust’s Get into Customer Services programme has been so successful for everyone involved.”
Philip Jones, Director of The Prince’s Trust Cymru added: “Dŵr Cymru have been great supporters of The Trust in Wales for a number of years, and their support has now led to 10 young people gaining employment.
“We cannot thank Dŵr Cymru enough for their cooperation throughout this programme and for making an active difference to young people’s lives in Wales.”
