Our Innovation Process

We’re always open to new ideas. If you have an idea, product, technology or research proposal that aligns with the challenges in our 2050 vision please let us know. You can see the challenges we face here.

To share your idea with us:

1. Submit your idea using our online form. This is an opportunity to explore ideas that could help us deliver an improved service. Please do not include any confidential information in your submission.

Once you have submitted your idea, you will receive an automated email to acknowledge that we have received it. All submitted ideas will be considered by our Water Services or Wastewater Services Business Units and you will receive an email to let you know whether or not your idea has been shortlisted for submission to a monthly innovation forum.

Ideas will be shortlisted if they align with our business needs and comply with legislative and regulatory requirements. For example, if you were submitting an idea in relation to water quality it would need to comply with Regulation 31 of the Water Supply (Water Quality regulations) 2000. If we have chosen not to pursue your idea, we will contact you to let you know.

2. Our monthly innovation forums are attended by Welsh Water employees and our alliance partners. If your idea is shortlisted for this forum, it will be reviewed for approval to take forward.

3. If your idea is given approval at the Innovation forum, we will be in touch with you to explain next steps. If is not approved, we will let you know.

Please note that if your idea is approved at the innovation forum, Welsh Water gives no guarantee that it will be incorporated into the business. Welsh Water is a regulated utility which means that we must procure our goods and services in accordance with the public procurement rules.

Approval at this stage means that we will liaise with you in order to discuss your idea further and determine next steps.
